Get to Know Wendy Fontanilla, an Employee Donor
Many employees of St. John’s Hospitals participate in St. John’s Healthcare Foundation’s annual employee giving campaign. These employees generously support a variety of hospital and community health outreach programs by making cash gifts, donating hours from their PTO bank or signing up for recurring donations via payroll deduction.
We are pleased to introduce you to Wendy Fontanilla, RN. Wendy is a clinical nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at St. John’s Hospital Camarillo.
How long have you worked for St. John’s Hospitals? What led you to join our ministry?
I’ve been a Registered Nurse for 29 years. I joined St. John’s Regional Medical Center in 2001 and transferred to St. John’s Hospital Camarillo in 2006. Nursing is my calling and my life’s work. I am dedicated to improving and saving lives by caring and advocating for my patients and their families.
St. John’s mission, vision, and values align with my own. When I was growing up in the Philippines, my mother served the most vulnerable people in our community, including those living in far-flung villages. Working at St. John’s and serving vulnerable patients in Ventura County makes me feel that I am honoring my mother.
When did you start participating in employee giving at St. John’s Hospitals and what motivated you to give?
I started participating in employee giving through payroll deduction more than two years ago. It’s an easy way for me to support our hospitals and help St. John’s care for the less fortunate and the disadvantaged through community health outreach programs. A quote by Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much,” inspired me to give.
